Year-End Function: important company event or just an excuse to party?

As 2017 draws to a close, most businesses have begun planning for 2018 and find themselves reflecting on the year gone by. A year-end function might be seen by some as a waste of hard-earned cash, however there are many reasons why year-end functions should hold prime position in a company’s calendar of events.  Here are our top three:

Reward and recognition
A year-end function poses the perfect opportunity to celebrate and share a business’ achievements from the year, such as positive sales figures and any special projects that have been completed. It is also a chance to reward those who have outperformed during the year, to say thank you to all employees for overcoming the business challenges they have faced and achieving their annual targets.

Personal rapport
A year-end function is a good place for employees from all levels of a business to connect with each other in an informal setting and often helps to nurture stronger working relationships for the year ahead.

Honest feedback
A year-end function also gives employees a more relaxed and ‘open’ platform upon which to offer new ideas and recommendations to senior management and provide honest feedback from the year gone by.

If you’re looking for the best place to host your company’s Year-End function, our newly refurbished bistro, The Stone Kitchen, at Dunstone Country Estate offers a stylish yet rustic venue that can accommodate group bookings up to a maximum of X people, seven days a week.

Guests can choose between indoor or outdoor dining, with a range of menu options that cater to all budgets, from a more formal a la carte menu to luxury picnic hampers enjoyed on blankets and bean bags in our shaded bistro garden.

To discuss menu options or make a booking, please email restaurant manager, Carmen, at or call +27(0)21 873 6770.

More About the Kids’ Area at The Stone Kitchen

Inside Play Area

The new kids’ zone at The Stone Kitchen, Dunstone Country Estate, offers a large soft play area, climbing wall and lego table, with several kids’ tables and chairs for coloring in and enjoying a bite from our kiddies’ menu. Whilst connected to the main restaurant both inside and outside, the kids’ zone is soundproofed to keep noise levels to a minimum, allowing adults to enjoy their meal in the main dining area. Best of all, our viewing window allows mums and dads to keep a watchful eye!

Outside Play Area

In the garden, there is even more for our Dunstone kids to enjoy than before. In addition to our mud kitchen, duck pond, trampoline, jungle gym, sandpit and swings, we have now built a colourful putt-putt course to keep older kids entertained for longer.

We are looking forward to celebrating with you and your family at the Dunstone Kids’ Rainbow Party. For any queries, email or contact Carmen at +27(0)21 873 6770

Seven day countdown begins…

As you may already have seen, The Stone Kitchen is closing on Monday 7th August for four weeks so that we can begin our renovation project to make our restaurant bigger and better for both our local and international friends and families. The look and feel of our new space will remain; a relaxed, homely restaurant with a rustic charm and menu to match. So, what will change?

Kids’ carnival

We’re building a brand new 12 x 6m indoor kids zone including a soft play area and lots of other activities! It will be bright  and welcoming with glass doors overlooking the garden. The kid zone will be a perfect place to host children’s birthday parties, come rain or shine.

Glass, glorious glass

The restaurant interior will be expanding by 90m2 and will include large windows and glass doors overlooking the mountains, as well as a wood burning fireplace for cosy, winter days and large aircon units for the heat of summer.

Zen zone

A new front stoep (patio) with views over Groenburg, will delight our overnight guests at breakfast and dinner and create a quiet zone away from kids’ play areas over lunch.

Outdoor utopia

Charlie, our gardener, is already hard at work installing a mini-golf section in our kids’ play zone, and will soon be transforming our existing parking area into a landscaped garden, complete with herbs and vegetables. The car park will be relocated to the guava orchard, so that our breathtaking views are not disturbed by parked cars.

We will all be working very hard in August to ensure that we reopen as planned for the weekend of the 9th September. For updates on our renovations, make sure you follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram as we will be posting photos regularly.
